Vinous Stephen Tanzer - 01 Mar 06
Bright, saturated ruby-red. High-pitched nose dominated by violet and minerals. Thick on entry, then superconcentrated but light on its feet in the middle palate, with utterly fresh, sharply delineated flavors of cherry, minerals and spice cake. The huge, broad, fine tannins coat the entire palate. Explosive finishing flavors of sappy blackberry and black raspberry offer uncanny vinosity for the year. Obviously enormous and atypical for Les Saint-Georges, but here's a 2003 that could well enjoy a 25-year evolution in bottle.

Nuits-Saint-Georges

Nuits-Saint-Georges, a renowned appellation in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits, is famous for its robust, structured Pinot Noir wines with rich flavours of dark cherries, blackberries, and plums, along with earthy, spicy notes. Known for firm tannins and full-bodied character, these wines are ideal for ageing. Although lacking Grand Cru vineyards, Premier Cru sites like Les Saint-Georges and Les Vaucrains produce exceptional wines. Top producers include Domaine Henri Gouges, Domaine Faiveley, and Domaine Robert Chevillon, all celebrated for showcasing the unique terroir with traditional winemaking.
